My name is Harvey Sun. I studied engineering at Duke and spent years in e-commerce. Like most people living abroad, I assumed healthcare just worked the way it worked — slow, expensive, and subject to whatever your insurance decided to approve that week.

A few months later I was back in Wuhan visiting family. On a whim, I booked a full-body screening at a local hospital. Two days' notice. Fifteen panels including imaging. Results the same afternoon. The cost was less than a single month of the US premium I had been paying for coverage that would not have touched it.
I flew back thinking about that gap the entire flight.
