About

The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University traces its roots to the 'Hospital Franco-Chinois Paul Doumer,' founded in 1903 and one of Guangzhou's earliest Western-style hospitals; it became Guangzhou Medical University's teaching hospital in 1974 and took its current name in 2013. It now operates across three campuses -- Datansha (the National Respiratory Medical Center and main site), Yanjiang (the historic original campus), and Haiyin -- with roughly 1,500-1,600 beds.

The hospital is the seat of the State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease, the National Clinical Research Center for Respiratory Diseases, and the National Center for Respiratory Medicine (established 2020), all led for decades by academician Zhong Nanshan. Its Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine department has ranked #1 nationally on the Fudan specialty reputation ranking for 15 consecutive years, and the hospital played a central role in China's clinical response to SARS, avian influenza and COVID-19. It is also the only hospital in South China authorized to perform lung transplantation, and pioneered the internationally adopted 'tubeless' minimally invasive thoracic surgery technique. Urology is a Guangdong provincial key discipline and home to China's first national minimally invasive surgery training center.

No dedicated international-patient department was located through the hospital's official channels or Haodf.com as of this research.
