Tongji Hospital, Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST)

Founded in Shanghai in 1900 by German physician Erich Paulun and relocated to Wuhan in 1955, Tongji Hospital is one of China's oldest and most prestigious teaching hospitals, consistently ranked in the national top 10 (Fudan ranking, #6-7 in recent years) and operating main, Optics Valley (Guanggu) and Sino-French New City campuses. It holds 4 Ministry of Education national key disciplines: Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine, General Surgery, and Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Its Organ Transplant Institute is regarded as the birthplace of organ transplantation in mainland China, having pioneered the country's first clinical kidney and liver transplants in the late 1970s, Asia-Pacific's first isolated pancreas transplant, and the world's first living-donor spleen transplant; it is one of the first centers nationally approved for all major organ transplants (heart, liver, lung, kidney, pancreas, small intestine), with 8,000+ cumulative kidney transplants (the first Chinese center to pass that mark) and 2,000+ liver transplants, both at a nationally leading level. Its Obstetrics & Gynecology department was ranked #4 nationally, Urology #5, and Geriatric Medicine #5 on the 2021 Fudan specialty reputation ranking.
