Tongji Hospital is a large public academic medical center affiliated with Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in Wuhan, Hubei province. It was founded in Shanghai in 1900 by the German physician Erich Paulun and relocated to Wuhan in 1955. The hospital now spans four campuses and 65 clinical and medical-technical departments, holding 11 State Key Disciplines and 43 National Clinical Key Specialties, and it has ranked among China's top ten hospitals on the Fudan China Hospital Rankings for ten consecutive years, most recently 6th nationally and 1st across Central-South China, with 34 specialties recognized nationally and 12 of them in the national top ten.
Its strongest programs are organ transplantation, where it holds the country's highest kidney transplant volume and performs heart, liver, lung, pancreas and combined multi-organ transplants; cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, handling more than 3,500 operations a year including complex bypass, valve, aortic and transplant procedures; and obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive medicine, ranked 3rd nationally and home to Hubei province's only National Clinical Research Center for Obstetric and Gynecological Diseases. The hospital has also recorded the highest annual outpatient and emergency visit volume in Hubei province for more than 20 consecutive years.

Tongji Hospital pioneered organ transplantation in China, beginning clinical kidney and liver transplants in the late 1970s. It performed the Asia-Pacific region's first pancreas transplant and the world's first living-donor splenic transplant for a patient with hemophilia A.
